The Center for Book Arts is housed in a 5,000 sq. foot loft space in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, conveniently located near public transit.
Our central gallery spaces feature rotating exhibitions that present artists’ books and the book arts as a contemporary art medium.
The Center’s studio equipment and facilities include a complete letterpress print shop with six Vandercook proof presses, two treadle presses, a 19th century Washington hand press and several platen presses, a composing room with many cabinets of foundry type, a Charles Brand etching press, a 36” guillotine paper cutter, and all accessory equipment.
The two binderies include nipping presses, standing presses, two board shears, a 3-ton Kensol hot stamping press, several Kwikprint hot stamping presses, lying presses, backing presses, and many hand tools.
On site is a reference library of materials on book arts, printmaking artist books and related topics and our fine art collection of artist books and prints.
