Check out the full video from our recent event with artists Jacqueline Goss and Jenny Perlin at The New School. In conjunction with our Fall 2015 Main Gallery Exhibition Archive Bound, Goss and Perlin presented their film and performance The Measures which retraces the journey of two 18th-century astronomers tasked with determining the true length of the meter. From the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel, The Measures explores the metric system’s origins during the violence and upheavals of the French Revolution. Along the way, Goss and Perlin consider the intertwining of political and personal turmoil, the failures of standardization, and the subtleties of collaboration.
The event began with a talk by New School curator Silvia Rocciolo on the Jose Clemente Orozco murals from The New School’s art collection. Independent Curator Karen E. Jones, who organized Archive Bound, also gave an introduction. The Measures was screened with a live voiceover by Goss and Perlin. Special thanks to The New School for co-hosting the event and producing this video!
