Event Info

This workshop takes place across three sessions:

  • Fri, July 16, 11am–5pm ET
  • Sat, July 17, 11am–5pm ET
  • Sun, July 18, 11am–5pm ET

This class will take place in-person at Center for Book Arts. There are only eight spots open in this workshop due to our limited capacity in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. All staff, artists, students, and guests are required to wear a mask during the entirety of the class. If you do not have a mask when you arrive, one will be provided for you. In this beginner’s course on letterpress printing, students will learn the basics of hand typesetting, printing on the Center’s Vandercooks, and the process of editioning. Artist Roni Gross will cover the essentials of good presswork including inking and impression, discuss typefaces, paper and the essentials of printing hand-set type. This class is ideal for those who wish to learn to print simple, text-based projects on the Vandercook, such as business cards, thank you/holiday cards, or poetry/prose. No prior experience required.

  • Pen & paper to take notes with

All other materials and tools will be provided by the Center.

 

About the Instructor

Roni Gross is a book artist whose work is in the collections of The Library of Congress, Harvard, Yale and many other public and private collections. She runs Z’roah Press which produces limited edition sculptural books.
