Roundtable discussion with Then & Now artists – Part 2
June 19, 2015, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for a roundtable discussion with artists from our Spring 2015 main gallery exhibition Then & Now: Ten Years of Residencies at the Center for Book Arts. Cecile Chong, Nicolás Dumit Estévez, Juana Valdes, and Jenifer Wightman will discuss their work and how their experiences as artists-in-residence at the Center have influenced their current practices.
Also joining the discussion will be Rory Golden, founder of the Artist-in-Residence program. Rory served the Center for Book Arts as Executive Director from 2000 to 2004 after completing his MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama. During that time Rory conceived and created the Center’s contemporary seminal artistic and literary programs including the Workspace Program Residency, the Center Broadsides Reading Series, and the Fine Press Publishing Seminar for Emerging Writers. Since 2004 he has been a Brooklyn-based independent and itinerant artist, participating in residency programs and visiting artist programs across the country such as Yaddo, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and the BRIC Media Arts Fellowship.
