Broadside with bone trees and the poem on the bottom lefthand side of the page.
Becoming a Forest. Poem by Ama Codjoe. Designed by Rowan Renee

Year: 2021

Poem by Ama Codjoe. Printed by Rowan Renee at Center for Book Arts in honor of the poet’s reading on May 6, 2021. Set by hand using Garamond, Calson Antique, and Modern Italic on French Paper. Edition of 100

Rowan’s design builds on the poet’s image: “these trees are my bones.” The 3-color illustration depicts branches and roots extending from a femur-shaped tree trunk, with vibrant green leaves catching the wind and being swept off the page. The concept aims to capture the feeling of interwovenness between ourselves and the nature around us.
