This in-person event takes place at CBA (28 W 27 St, 3rd Fl) on Friday, April 1 at 6:00pm.

About the Event

Center for Book Arts is excited to host De viaje… Crónicas de una espera (On Voyage…Chronicles of Awaiting), (F&L editores, 2018) by artist and writer Helena Arellano Mayz. The event will include an immersive multimedia presentation of the six-part book, based on her transcontinental travel chronicles over a ten year period. The author will share insight on the process of incorporating her memorabilia collected from the voyages while in conversation with Francisca Mayobre. Together, they will further discuss Helena’s work with top practitioners in Venezuela on the handmade intricacies and details in the book’s design, printing and assemblage processes.

In De Viaje… Helena documented eighteen travel excursions between the years of 2005 and 2014, combining her collection of ephemera in a boxed series of six books. The reader becomes a companion of Helena’s travels while leafing through passages of her vivid and meditative journal reflections, capturing the artist’s experience and personal reflections of her discoveries. The text is accompanied by reproductions of the author’s quick sketches, watercolor paintings, photographs, and other textural findings, exhibiting a montage of the land- and city-scape imagery she encountered.
