Artists’ books in Lithuania gained popularity in the first half of 20th Century following the lifting of a printing ban, independence movement and cultural liberalization, but their development was stifled during Soviet occupation, only to re-emerge in the 1990s after Lithuania regained independence again. Viktorija Rybakova will introduce her research into artists’ books findings in the Vilnius University Library, where she began her relationship as an artist in 2013 by creating an artists’ book about a unique collection smuggled in during Soviet occupation by Lithuanian-Canadian Genutis Procuta. Ten years later, she returned to curate the Graphic Arts Cabinet and research artists’ books culture in Lithuania.
This event is organized in partnership with Lithuanian Culture Institute and Lithuanian Council for Culture.
