Useful Decor: Intro to Stab Binding (Fall 2021)

Event Info

This online class will take place across two sessions:

  • Tues, Sept. 7, 10am-12pm ET
  • Tues, Sept. 14, 10am-12pm ET

Day 1 will cover with 4-hole stab-binding and nobel stab-binding. In this traditional binding style originated in East Asia, stitchings simultaneously serve the utility of fastening pages and the beauty of geometry patterns. Examples of artists’ books (old and new) using related techniques will be shown to demonstrate further possibilities.

Day 2 will cover tortoise-shell stab-binding and hemp-leaf stab-binding. In learning these two intricate binding styles, participants will experience the rhythm of stitching patterns, and will be led to creative improvisations.
