Event Info

This class will take place across three sessions:

  • Tues, June 15th, 1-3pm EDT
  • Tues, June 22nd, 1-3pm EDT
  • Tues, June 29th, 1-3pm EDT

In this three-session course, students will gain an understanding of the history and process of book ornamentation. Students will learn how to hand draw their ornaments and later digitize them using the Glyphs software app. Students will also learn how to make a font out of their original ornaments. By the end of the class, there will be time for students to have their work reviewed and consulted by other students and the instructor.

This class will also include further readings, additional content and homework assignments for students to practice what they’ve learned and to further students’ understanding of concepts.

Student should come prepared to class with access to Adobe Illustrator and a Glyphs license, and should go through the series of tutorials on the website before the first day of class. The app offers a 30 day free trial and for purchase.

There are a total of 12 spots open in this small-group workshop.

If possible, the book should be acquired. The instructor recommends taking the class and then deciding whether or not to purchase the book. The course will be taught in a way that the book is a nice addition, but not required.
