About This Workshop:

This in-person workshop is taught by instructor Mirko Velimirovic.

Throughout the history of printing, bookmakers have distinguished their printing houses or their specific designs with printers’ marks. This course will delve into the history of printer’s mark making, and examine how we might continue this rich aesthetic tradition with both modern and traditional tools. Students will study historical examples of printers’ marks provided by the instructor, as well as sourced from the CBA library. After gathering knowledge about common aesthetic practices for printers’ marks students will learn to draw their own marks using a variety of drawing tools and working iteratively via tracing paper. Then students will digitize their marks for further use.
