Entrapped: The Book as Container is an exhibition that took place at Center for Book Arts Apr 4–30, 1981, curated by Norman B. Colp.

Norman B. Colp, the curator, said of the exhibit:  “The concept for this exhibition developed after seeing several limited edition books that were presented in slipcases, which added to the sense of the preciousness of the enclosed object. I then sought out artists’ books with made use of this feeling of containment.

The range of the works are from the large-format plywood book of Carol Crawford to the delicate handmade works of Jacqui Holmes, whose music books contain threads as staffs and are three dimensional objects that are approaching two dimensions.”

Support for the Center for Book Arts’ visual arts programming is provided, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
