Paste Paper Designs: Owning the Mark
July 18, 2015
Saturday, July 18, 10am-4pm
Paste papers are a gateway to creating unique patterned papers for one’s own artist practices. We will investigate the myriad possibilities inherent in this media: paints, choice of papers/boards, materials, formulas, edition printing and more. Participants will delve into the creation of unique surface patterns with the use of multiple implements: found objects, cutting one’s own stamps, brayers, stencils, and an array of direct and indirect modes of making marks. Class discussion will center on the versatility and multi-use of these pages and will culminate with making a sample book of your designs.
Please bring along any mark making tools – think creatively – such as: wooden coffee stirrers, corks from bottles, bread plastic closures, small pieces of plastic such as old credit cards or small covers from storage containers, sponges, combs, commercial stamps with designs, tooth brushes, small pieces of museum board or binder’s board (no cardboard). Additionally please bring: sponge brushes and regular brushes (at least three at 2” wide), three small plastic containers with covers, masking tape, and any papers you would like to bring along.
