This two-hour workshop with artist Roni Gross will explore the way found text can be used to create your own content.

In this two-hour class, students will extract language from a page of a novel to make new content. The instructor will demonstrate the use of configuration and the meaning of the text to add visual elements to transform the page.

Students will manipulate three copies of the same page to create a series, using techniques such as cutting, blacking out, and collaging, adding color and patterns from drawing.

This class is open to adults 18+ with all levels of experience.

Students should have the following supplies:

– 10 xerox copies of one page of a novel (you may enlarge it if you like)

– exacto knife

– cutting mat

– scissors

– colored pencils

– color markers

– newspaper, colored papers

– rapidograph – if you have one

– colored pencils

About the Center for Book Arts:

The Center for Book Arts promotes active explorations of both contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as an art object. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary visual and literary arts, while being a model organization locally, nationally, and internationally within the field. We achieve this through exhibitions, classes, public programming, literary presentations, opportunities for artists and writers, publications, and collecting.
