Tate Shaw at the opening reception of Everything in Time

Curated by Tate Shaw.

This exhibition recognizes contemporary artists using books to document maximalist methodologies. Artists who create these Every documents (i.e. everything I ate last year, every word I spoke one week, all the money I spent that month, etc), are struggling with the role of, and a lack of control over information. The Every documents featured in this exhibition respond to the filterers of information we rely upon in our daily lives trusted sources that filter information into manageable content by providing unfiltered documents of experience. These unfiltered, Every documents pose unique problems. Often massive in scale, they force us to contend with excess as an idea.

Support for Center for Book Arts’ visual arts programming is provided, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
