New Book Art: Scholar Residents of 2018

all the books published by catalogue press
Catalogue Press (2019) Ben Denzer

The 2017-18 Cohort for the Scholarship for Advanced Studies in the Book Arts have each demonstrated their commitment to specific areas of practice within the book arts. The exhibited works by Laura Byrne, Elizabeth Castaldo and Ben Denzer contend with the traditional forms and themes used in Book Art. As seen in Castaldo and Denzer’s practice, New Book Art interrogates the artworks’ materiality in order to repurpose and reincarnate natural and ready-made book objects. Byrne demonstrates New Book Art as an opportunity to revisit the tradition of printing religious iconography and symbolism. Together, the works narrativize the curious exploration and formation of an exciting contemporary trajectory, creating a new way to engage in the field of book arts.
