|Proof from “Warren Woods” on auction|
The Center for Book Arts is thrilled to offer a piece by Gloria Helfgott in our Silent Auction.
This woodcut is a proof for a page of her artist book “Warren Woods” and was generously donated to the auction by artist Evelyn Eller. This is a rare and unique piece that should have serious collectors in a tizzy.
The late Gloria Helfgott helped define the genre of book arts in the contemporary arts world. Her work is known for its innovative and architectural elements that transcended the notion that a book was merely a vehicle for information.
|“Warren Woods” is titled for the City Park in Connecticut which Helfgott recalled fondly.|
Helfgott was an artist and teacher. She was born and raised in New York City and was a member of our very own Center for Book Arts for many years before moving to Southern California in 1996. In 2002 she helped to found the Los Angeles Book Arts Center. Her books have been collected by the Brooklyn Museum, Stanford University Special Collections and University Archives, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art Library in New York, among others.
