Sheila Benedis
I have had an extensive art career in baskets which turned into sculptures, installation work and artist books. I’ve exhibited them in galleries, museums, and universities, Saint Peters Church Citicorp Bldg, Sarah Lawrence College, Hudson River Museum, Neuberger Museum. I’ve had artist residencies at Ragdale Foundation IL, VA Center for Creative Arts, Fundacion Valparaiso Spain, Anderson Center MN, Costa Rica. I make artist books, which turn into sculptures. They are made of paper, my favorite medium. I am inspired by nature’s organic shapes, texture, movement and earth tones. My imagery conveys feelings of joy and excitement. I use poetry to reflect, examine my life, my place in the world, positive social change. I majored in math in college, now want to capture its aesthetics.
