Sunny Leerasanthanah
Sunny Leerasanthanah (b. 1994) was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and is based in Brooklyn, New York. Through photography, video, bookmaking, installation, and performance, she has investigated identity, placemaking, immigration, family, belonging, superstition, and storytelling. Most recently, Sunny was a recipient of the 2022 Fire Island Artist Residency. She was awarded the Queens Council on the Arts’ 2021 New Work Grant for her video installation, Wuthichai (Exit Interview), commissioned by SculptureCenter (NY). The project featured improvised performances by Thai immigrants roleplaying as Sunny’s deceased father. In 2020, her self-published book, Mom’s Magnets, was featured at Bangkok Art Book Fair. Upcoming in 2023, she will present a new body of work about invasive species and foreign bodies in a solo exhibition at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (WI). Sunny earned her BFA in film and photography from Ithaca College and her MA in arts administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
