2024 Annual Chapbook Reading

Event Info

This poetry reading and publications launch celebrating our 2024 Chapbook Competition winner, nar juicebox castle, and runners-up, Stephanie Dinsae and Irene Villaseñor, will be hosted by the competition’s Guest Judge, Rasha Abdulhadi. We will also hear from the artists who designed, printed, and assembled this year’s publications: 2021 Workspace Artists-in-Residence, Rhonda Khalifeh and Jenna Hamed; Sidney Renaud-Eberly, Audra Woloweic, and CBA’s 2023 Workspace Artist-in-Residence Tash Nikol.

Of nar juicebox castle’s winning manuscript Abdulhadi said, “Moving through a range of poetic forms written at a slant, this manuscript travels through Black fugitive time and space–from the MOVE bombing to Christopher Dorner, conspiring toward a lesbian tryst between two women separated by a century and a half. By turns travelogue and seance, in persona poems and impossible but deeply felt conversations, this short manuscript is cinematic in scope and immediacy. The emotional intervention of histories and presents being acted upon (in a time outside of time and somehow still: right now!) is urgent. These are poems that take up residence in us as we read.”

Broadsides and chapbooks are available at a special price for event attendees
