Jan Voss

Hildesheim, Germany 1945, studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1966 – 1972 most of the time as as student of Dieter Roth. The high karate personnel of the local art scene in those years helped to broaden his perspective which was further widened by visits to Iceland from 1971 on. Occasional model making of ideas and painting, but mainly drawing and subsequently (offset-)printing, then also publishing and distributing became his core artistic activities. Exhibitions, books and occasional teaching at a variety of art schools bear witness of his activities. He was in 1985 one of the founders of Boekie Woekie, books by artists in Amsterdam and still is daily involved in it together with Henriëtte van Egten and Rúna Thorkelsdóttir. In the year 2000 in Basel he became one of the founding members of the Dieter Roth Academy. He lives in Amsterdam with frequent and long off-times in Iceland.
