Studio Programs Manager


  • Schedule: Full-Time, (in-person, evenings and weekends required)
  • Salary: $60,000–$65,000 annually

Center for Book Arts is seeking a dynamic and organized Studio Programs Manager to join our close-knit and collaborative team. The Studio Programs Manager plays a central role in the daily operations of our studios and programs, managing a variety of key initiatives including the Artist-in-Residence program, studio rentals and memberships, outreach programs, and the bookshop. This is a hands-on position that supports both the creative and operational aspects of our organization.

This role supervises several part-time staff, interns, and volunteers, including our Outreach Assistant, Maintenance Assistant, Studio Ambassadors, and Visitor Services Volunteers. The ideal candidate is a proactive team leader with strong interpersonal skills, a warm and professional communication style, and experience working in communal studios or similar environments. Familiarity with book art techniques—such as letterpress, bookbinding, or risograph printing—is a major plus.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and safe studio environment
  • Oversee Artist-in-Residence, studio rentals, memberships, and bookshop programs
  • Manage the daily operations and long-term planning of the Bookshop, including sales, inventory, and fulfillment
  • Supervise part-time staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to increase program impact, revenue, and community engagement
  • Coordinate with Program Staff to support educational and outreach initiatives
  • Ensure that studio equipment is in good working order and well-maintained
  • Recruit and support volunteers to help foster an inclusive and inviting visitor experience

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has a passion for the book arts. In addition, they are highly organized, self-motivated, and have excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 2–5 years experience in a communal studio or related setting
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Budget management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Clear, timely, and friendly communication style
  • Comfortable working with a small, collaborative team
  • Enthusiastic about nonprofit arts environments
  • Experience managing studio moves or reorganizations is a plus
