Studio Programs Manager


  • Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20–26 hours per week, with the opportunity to expand to full-time depending on performance and organizational capacity; evenings and weekends required 
  • Salary: $36,000–$40,000 annually (prorated)
  • Reports to: Executive Director

Center for Book Arts seeks a Studio Programs Manager to steward and grow CBA’s studio programs as a dynamic, financially sustaining part the organization. This is a part-time position with the opportunity to expand to full-time depending on performance and organizational capacity. The Studio Programs Manager is responsible for the health and vitality of CBA’s bookmaking studios, the Artist-in-Residence program, and the network of artists, renters, and members who use them. The Studio Programs Manager works closely with the Executive Director to develop earned income from studio programs and manages the Outreach Assistant, who coordinates private lessons, group visits, and supports external collaborations. 


Key Responsibilities:

Studio Network & Revenue

  • Develop and manage a tiered studio access program (rentals, memberships, and keyholder arrangements) designed to grow earned income while maintaining mission alignment 
  • Actively cultivate a network of artists and renters whose practice reflects CBA’s commitment to the book arts 
  • Set and monitor pricing, scheduling, and access policies for studio use in collaboration with the Executive Director; manage studio reservations through Qreserve 
  • Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities within the studio program, including partnerships with schools, universities, and arts organizations 

Artist-in-Residence Program 

  • Manage all aspects of the Artist-in-Residence program, including application processes, jury, onboarding, and program evaluation 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for artists-in-residence during their tenure, encouraging their continued relationship with the organization after term 
  • Document residency outcomes and support grant reporting related to the program 
  • Develop the AiR program as a visible expression of CBA’s mission to support working book artists 

Outreach Program Oversight 

  • Supervise the Outreach Assistant in scheduling and executing private lessons, group visits, tours, and external collaborations 
  • Ensure outreach programming is well-coordinated with the broader exhibition and education calendar 
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with institutional partners including colleges, universities, arts councils, libraries, and civic organizations 

Organizational Leadership 

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to identify funding opportunities for studio programs 
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for studio programs 
  • Maintain accurate records of studio usage, revenue, residency participation, and program demographics 
  • Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of CBA to visitors, artists, and members of the public maintaining a positive image for the organization 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has a passion for the book arts. In addition, they are highly organized, self-motivated, and have excellent written and verbal skills.

  • 2–5 years of experience managing a communal art studio, artist residency program, or comparable role 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop earned income programs in a nonprofit or arts setting 
  • Knowledge of book arts practices and equipment, particularly letterpress, bookbinding, and risograph, is a strong advantage 
  • Experience managing budgets and working toward revenue goals 
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a warm but clear, people-centered communication style 
  • Strong project management with the ability to move multiple workstreams forward simultaneously and keep stakeholders informed 
  • Proficiency in MS Office or Google Suite; experience with studio reservation systems required, with preference for candidates familiar with Qreserve 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
