Beyond the Rules
This exhibition encompasses examples of Mark Cockram’s output from the last few years in which he has been exploring the more creative side of bookbinding and the wider field of book arts. Mark has been very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with some fantastic text blocks provided by understanding and adventurous collectors. When working on commission, it is a rare privilege to be given a completely free hand. He loves making creative bindings for beautiful books, pushing himself technically and artistically to maintain a balance between reflecting the visual and literary content of each book, and expressing himself as a contemporary artist.

This 2 day course is intended to allow the student to explore and investigate design and material use in a more creative and open framework. It will give students the opportunity to select and explore a range of media and materials, and to pursue design ideas through development of their own personal style in the production and applied decoration of a Flat Back Case binding.
