Tamen Pérez
Tamen Pérez (she/her) is an artist from San José, Costa Rica based in New York. Through drawing, painting, and printmaking, she processes images in order to slow down their informational momentum, remediate them, and sift through their manifolds of signification. She uses non-linear storytelling as a conceptual framework to move forward and backward in history, poking at collective conceptions of time as a universal construct. Her work questions Western concepts of historicity embedded within art, as well as art’s complicity in narratives of colonial violence, racism and sexism.
She received her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art, her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and participated in the Berlin based residency Berlin Program for Artists.
