Mom’s Magnets

Mom’s Magnets is Sunny Leerasanthanah’s documentation of her mother’s collection of magnets—some bought, some gifted—from around the world. Leerasanthanah is interested in souvenir magnets as a reduction of culture, place, people, heritage, and politics to commodified kitsch. In the book, patterns and symbols reveal the homogenous representations of marketable icons. The book contemplates the attempt to embody and possess a time and place; a theme that resonates with Leerasanthanah’s other work.
