Exhibition
Organized by Tate Shaw, Director of Visual Studies Workshop
This exhibition catalog recognizes contemporary artists using books to document maximalist methodologies. Artists who create these “Every” documents (i.e. everything I ate last year, every word I spoke one week, all the money I spent that month, etc), are struggling with the role of, and a lack of control over information. The “Every” documents featured in this exhibition respond to the filterers of information we rely upon in our daily lives-trusted sources that filter information into manageable content-by providing unfiltered documents of experience. These unfiltered, “Every” documents pose unique problems. Often massive in scale, they force us to contend with excess as an idea.
