A language act is Amira Hanafi’s open invitation to contribute to a crowd translation of the English Language Unity Act of 2019, a proposed piece of legislation that would establish English as the official language of the United States. The original text of the bill was posted in its entirety on Google Docs and remains open to the public for edits. More information about this and other projects can be found on Amira Hanafi’s website.

This broadside reflects the living document as of April 2023. It was designed and printed risograph in an edition of 100 by Allison Carter-Beaulé in honor of the artist’s reading during the Spring 2023 Broadside Series, Human Artifacts, curated by Allison Parrish.

The broadside text is set in Times, printed five-color risograph on legal-sized paper.
