Please join us for Artists’ Books for Stitchcraft: Threading Reproductive Justice, Resilience and Change with Iviva Olenick on Friday, October 18th 2024 at 6pm.

As part of her multi-year, interdisciplinary art project, Stitchcraft: Threading Reproductive Justice, Resilience and Change, artist Iviva Olenick is making a series of artists’ books conveying traditional herbal remedies for managing reproductive and hormonal cycles of women and people with wombs. These methods date back hundreds of years, and many have been lost to time and industrialized medicine. By cataloguing herbalisms’ oral histories through embroidered texts on unique fabric books, Iviva captures intersections of health, women’s and intercultural histories. Books also contain monoprints with some of the health plants she grows and studies.

Iviva will present her books in person at Center for Book Arts, and describe her research, experience growing some of the health plants, and processes for making the artists’ books. This talk will provide deeper insight into the techniques Iviva teaches as an instructor at Center for Book Arts. Join us for an engaging discussion at intersections of health, well-being, fiber arts, book arts, and reproductive and climate justice.

This project is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
