Center for Book Arts seeks a Full Time Book Art Studio Manager.

The Book Art Studio Manager is part of a team of 5 full-time and 3 part-time employees. This position works closely with the Educational and Exhibitions Programs Managers and is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and activation the organization’s Letterpress and Bindery Studios, Bookshop, and Artist Residencies. This position manages the Outreach Coordinator, Maintenance Assistant, volunteer studio ambassadors, studio intern, and Visitor Services Volunteers.


Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and well-maintained community studio;
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for CBA’s Studio Programs (Artist-in-Residence program, studio rentals, tours, and group workshops, and bookshop);
  • Manage the Artist-in-Residence Program;
  • Train and supervise Studio Ambassadors, Studio Interns, and Visitors Services volunteers;
  • Ensure Studio Ambassadors are properly maintaining the equipment and shared studios in order to provide safe and welcoming environment for our studio community;
  • Oversee bookshop sales, displays, and inventory.

With the Executive Director & Director of Development

  • Develop a plan for increasing impact and revenue from studio rentals and bookshop sales;
  • Set short and long-term goals for program residency program;
  • Develop and implement budgets for studio programs;
  • Collaborate to identify areas of potential program growth;
  • Seek to improve CBA’s studios by identifying potential donors.

With Program Staff

  • Create and nurture a warm and engaging community of artists within the studios;
  • Work with Programs managers to schedule studio use for programs and workshops;
  • Supervise Outreach Coordinator in scheduling and evaluating group visits and bookshop fulfillment;
  • Supervise Maintenance Assistant to ensure all facilities are in good working order.

 


Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, people person, with 2-5 years work experience in a communal studio position or a related activity. This candidate has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and has a clear and timely communication style that comes across as warm and welcoming. Experience in book art techniques and equipment (in particular letterpress, hand binding, risograph) is a strong advantage because of the position’s studio responsibilities. 

The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred;
  • 2-5 years experience in a communal art studio;
  • Experience managing budgets;
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel and Word) and google suite;
  • Ability to work well in a small team.

Excellent written and verbal skills and customer service experience required. A sincere interest in working in a nonprofit art studio environment needed. Experience managing a studio reorganization or move is a plus as we will be receiving new studio equipment in 2024.


Time Requirement

  • Full-Time 40 hours/ week
  • Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00AM – 7:00PM
  • Please note that this position is in-person at Center for Book Arts.

Compensation

  • $60,000-65,000 annual;
  • full paid health and life insurance;
