Event Info

This poetry reading and publications launch celebrating our 2022 Chapbook Competition winner, Mai Serhan, and runners-up, Megan Sungyoon and Nicola Masciandaro, will be hosted by the competition’s 2022 Guest Judge, Mei-mei Berssenbrugge. We will also hear from the artists who designed, printed, and assembled this year’s publications: 2021 Workspace Artists-in-Residence, Rhonda Khalifeh; Kiki Smith , Richard Tuttle, and CBA’s 2022 Book Artist-in-Residence Sarah Moody; 2021 Book Artist-in-Residence Oswaldo García and Dongyoung Lee.

Of Serhan’s winning manuscript Berssenbrugge said, “This rich and imaginative series of ‘letters to the editor’ is a cracked mirror on the city of Cairo depicted by a demimonde of citizens and the surreal dramatizations of their plights as pleas. The absent editor of the Daily Mail represents a higher authority of truth, hope, justice in the possibility of these ‘true’ stories being published. The poet writes with compassion, strength, humor and flamboyance.”

Broadsides and chapbooks are available at a special price for event attendees (broadsides are normally $20 each and chapbooks are $50).
