About
Center for Book Arts’ Single Artist Exhibition program has been demonstrating the breadth of the book arts for over 15 years. Originally conceived to provide CBA’s own Artist Members with the opportunity to display their work, we now invite all artists working within the book arts to apply.
Proposal Criteria
- Work must have been produced within the last 5 years
- Work must relate to the book arts (broadly defined to include bookmaking, binding, printing, publishing, paper treatments, and more)
- Exhibitions should be focused on a cohesive theme, issue, or subject
We Encourage
- Site-specific installations
- Collaborative projects
- Projects that challenge what we consider as a part of the book arts
Selected Projects
Proposals selected for exhibition will be scheduled a minimum of one year in advance. The participating artist(s) will receive a $1,000 stipend, assistance with exhibition installation & marketing—including a brochure, and the opportunity to present a public program.
Support
Support for Center for Book Arts’ Visual Arts Programs is provided, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
How to Apply
The application is always open but submissions from the past year are reviewed annually in March with notification sent out in April.
Submissions should include
- 10 images of recent work samples (produced within the last 2 years)
- Artist’s CV
- 100 word artist bio
- A 500 word solo exhibition proposal
- Link to the artist’s website
Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
