About the Workshop:
Have you ever wondered about how to surf the dark web? Asked yourself what is the dark web? Thought, if only I could access the secret underworld of the internet!? Learn how. This is a vital tool for any artist.
Dark Web Treasure Hunt is an interactive game where participants explore the Dark Web in small groups to better understand the hidden landscape. After an initial history lesson on the Dark Web and Tor, artist Tim Schwartz aka ProfX, will be your guide as you, the wayward traveler, attempt to navigate hidden websites without the help of Google from the comfort of your own home.
A computer and 30 minutes pre-work required.

About the Instructor
Tim Schwartz focuses on data privacy and digital information as an artist, activist, and technologist. He specializes in teaching techniques for challenging power while protecting one’s identity. He is the author of A Public Service published by OR Books. Schwartz co-organizes the digital training organization Los Angeles Cryptoparty, a member of the Electronic Frontier Alliance. After developing technology to reunite missing people affected by the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, he began organizing the Missing Persons Community of Interest, which develops technology for reunifying families after disasters. From 2004 to 2007, Schwartz was the Assistant Curator of Digital Media at the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. He lives in Los Angeles.
