About the Workshop:
This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Hadley Vogel.
Learn two different leather working techniques over the course of two days! If you’ve made leather-bound books in the past, you may wonder how to create designs on the covers. Learn how in this intensive weekend workshop, with instructor Hadley Vogel. In this workshop, we’ll teach participants how to do both the inlay and onlay technique. The first day, we’ll learn leather inlay with a Japanese screw punch, creating multi-colored leather patterns with geometric shapes. The second day, we’ll learn leather onlay, layering leather and creating designs using a paring knife.
Students will walk away with plaquettes to use as inspiration or materials for an upcoming book project. The goal of this class is to expand your skillset, learn decorative techniques, learn how to customize leather bindings, and create a work of art using any leather that you have.
This is a great opportunity to have an introduction to leather working techniques and to learn some new skills to advance your practice.
Required Materials:
- Scalpel and Blades
All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts.
