Event Info

This one-day, online workshop takes place on Zoom on Thursday, March 2, from 1-3pm.

  • Thursday, March 2, 1-3pm ET

Please Note: Registration for this workshop closes on February 23, at 11:59pm.

About the Workshop:

Join CBA Instructor Maria G. Pisano in this online workshop to explore the flag book; a living, moving, interactive entity.

Originally created by Hedi Kyle, the flag book is an exciting book structure where the layered pages criss-cross each other when opening and closing. The flags’ wonderful movement allows for multiple images and content. Each participant will collage travel-related images of their choosing across the pages and covers to create a truly unique three-dimensional book!

This workshop is ideal for lovers of books and travel age 18+.

Required Materials:

Please be prepared with all materials below pre-cut and ready to go! Make sure to have extra collage materials for internal and external covers designs.

  • 10 images/photos for the pages & cover – Maps and photos of your choosing.
    • 9 images 2” H x 4.5″ W for the pages.
    • 1 or more images any size, to fit front cover that measures 5.5″ W x 8.5″ H
  • Cover weight/card stock (65 lb) paper for covers, support and pages: Two colors, light for pages and darker for covers/support
There are 9 flags/pages per book
Cut 6 flags – 5”W x 2.25 H
Cut 3 flags – 5”W x 2.5 H
Covers + support – 3 pages – each 8.5 x 11

In this workshop we will be using maps, ticket stubs, ephemera, etc. from places you have visited, experienced or dreamed about them in your imagination. Collect examples of your real or imaginary journeys with maps, photos you have taken or culled from magazines, anything that speaks to you to incorporate in your collaged pages.

Additionally: scrap paper for protecting your working surface when gluing. Self-healing mat, exacto or small snap blade knife, scissors, bone folder or popsicle sticks, stick glue or double sided tape. Optional – if you want to add more design elements to your pages: Colored pencils, stamp pads (minimum 3-4 colors), make-up triangular sponges.
