About the Workshop:

This in-person workshop is taught by CBA instructor Sheryl Oppenheim
Suminagashi (translation: spilled or floating ink) is a style of marbling that originated in Japan by the year 1100. It is the oldest form of marbling and is just done with water and ink!
Participants will learn about the history of suminagashi marbling and look at examples of work by contemporary work and practitioners. After learning about materials and how to prepare them, you will learn a variety of techniques as you practice suminagashi, experimenting with different paper and methods. Students will come away with marbled paper of their own as well as a newfound knowledge of the suminagashi technique. No previous experience required!

Required Materials:

All materials will be provided by CBA at no additional charge to the students.
