Gato Negro Ediciones

Bio

Gato Negro Ediciones (GNE) is an independent publishing project based in Mexico City founded in 2013. Our main activity is book publishing, followed by all the activities related and required for their dissemination, circulation, and discussion, as well as the
construction and care of a community around this work. Our entire model of production has been based on a formal, conceptual and practical economy of efficiency, rigour, austerity and sustainability. Over the last ten years we built a catalogue of more than 220 titles that spans a broad spectrum of genres, formats, perspectives and enunciations. A practice involves a conscious of animism: inhabiting the unique and non-transferable semantics and lyrics of the book. Creed on the holy certainty of the almighty super powers of the book as a tool of enunciation, denunciation, fight and memory. And it is, to that extent and at the same time, a permanent exercise of urgency: to bring into book form, content, ideas, arguments, inquiries, and forms of memory that only through this model of publishing would be able to exist. A radical practice, if that means a constant experimentation around the possibilities and limits of language; about to name the inexplicable; and about a permanent revolt against violence and oblivion. Of something like a mission could be enunciated would go like this: Place the marginal in the center, allow its enunciation and circulation. Be an effective vehicle that questions and subverts the center-periphery dynamics in the circulation of cultural content. Walk the fringe; occupy a bordering space; at the formal and conceptual edges of book making and editorial practices. Give voice and visibility to anti-hegemonic and anti-authoritarian discourses.
