About the Workshop
This in-person workshop is taught by CBA instructor Sarah Nicholls.
Over five weeks, students will work on binding an edition of 5 books, containing their own writing and images. Before the workshop, the instructor will send instructions to students to help them prepare printed sheets for binding. We will collate, fold, sew, and make custom covers for their books. Options include foil stamped titles and insets for images on the front cover. Students will hone their editioning skills and methods through the guidance of the instructor. Students will leave with an edition of their work and the skills to continue working on their own.
Required Materials
- Olfa knife (X-acto blade will also work)
- Awl
- Bone folder
- Scissors
- Glue brushes
- Pencil
- Spring dividers (optional)
- Signatures for binding. Students will prep printed pages before class, and I will provide a handout before the workshop begins to guide them through this process. They should print their pages on any text weight paper they prefer, but the grain direction should run in the short direction. I will provide information about grain direction and paper suggestions before class.
All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
