About the Workshop:

In this three-day workshop taught by instructor Biruta Auna, students will get a chance to use aniline dyes to treat leather and create unique cover designs with linoleum cut’s pressure technique. With your specially crafted and designed piece of leather, each student will be creating their very own softcover leather bound book with replaceable pages. 

No experience needed!


Required Materials:

  • knife (with snap-off blade, small olfa knife is the best)
  • bone folder
  • pencil and eraser
  • an awl or a very small hole punch
  • linoleum cutters
All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.

About Biruta Auna

Biruta Auna is an artist, bookbinder, and designer. Her work features traditional craftsmanship coupled with artistic innovation. Concerned with the harmony of form, color, and texture, she allows the book to transcend its usual function.

Biruta participates in domestic and international fine bookbinding exhibitions, and has had solo shows in Europe. Her clientele ranges from individuals – photographers, artists, and publishers – to art galleries and corporations.
