About the Workshop:
In this course students will work together to compile, curate and design a collaborative zine in response to various collected readings + materials. The primary goal of this course is to create a web of connections byway of varied content, and to allow for these serendipitous thematic connections to lead visual decisions and output. Students will engage in the editorial process of collecting content and will learn how to translate those ideas into a final publication.
No previous experience necessary. Students are encouraged to have an interest / curiosity in DIY publishing.
Required Materials:
- Books, readings, and items that feel pertinent to you
- Access to Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
- Blades (Xacto, Olfa, etc.)
Optional Materials:
- Bone folder
- Magazines / newspapers
About the Instructor
Zoë Pulley (b.1993) is a designer and maker who utilizes stuff to surface the seemingly ordinary stories of Black folks through mixed media, typography, and audio. She defines “stuff” as artifacts both physical and nonphysical that may be relegated as unimportant to some—as merely stuff. She earned a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015, an MFA in graphic design from Rhode Island School of Design in 2023 was an Artist-In-Residence at The Studio Museum In Harlem in 2024.
