  • Tuesday, February 7th, 6pm-8pm ET

Registration for this workshop closes January 10 at 11:59pm.

About the Workshop:

“Why design more letterforms?” “Why make new fonts?”

We would never ask “why do we keep making music”? Yet the question is asked consistently about why type designers and lettering artists produce new fonts and lettering. Typography, like music, is an ever evolving reflection of the human condition and our need to express ourselves to one another. While this class probably won’t illuminate the deeper mysteries of the human need to communicate, it will elucidate the technical processes by which we produce letterforms and digital typography.

In this four-session course, students will gain an understanding of digital lettering processes using Glyphs (type design software). Students will draw a basic character-set, learning spacing and testing techniques along the way. Students will have their work reviewed and critiqued by fellow students and the instructor.

There are a total of 12 spots open in this small-group workshop. If you cannot comfortably pay tuition but are interested in taking this class, please consider filling out our financial assistance application here. We will notify you of your scholarship status before the start date of the class.
