About the Workshop:

This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Sarah Nicholls.

Longstitch is a versatile and attractive method of sewing multiple signature books that open easily, don’t require a lot of complicated equipment, and can be adapted in a variety of ways. We will explore variations on the sewing pattern, combine long and link stitch together, and explore the different kinds of materials this structure is suited to, including leather, handmade paper, and wood.

We will look at binding models to get ideas, and at finished artist books in the CBA collection to see how this historical structure is used by artists. We will address four different variation on the structure and talk about the ways these variations can be personalized.

Required Materials:

All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
