Center for Book Arts 2021 Workspace Artist-in-Residence Yusuf Hassan designed and produced this broadside for the poem Each Morning by historic deceased poet Amiri Baraka on the occasion of CBA’s Fall 2021 Broadside Reading: Black Spirits on November 11, 2021.
The inclusion of work by historic deceased poets in the Black Spirits program was a historic first in the 20+ years of CBA’s Broadside Reading Series, which previously had only featured contemporary living poets. In addition to Hassan’s broadside for historic deceased poet Baraka, CBA artists Alix-Pentacost Farren and Claudia Cortinez designed and produced broadsides for historic deceased poets Ai and Kamau Brathwaite, respectively, for the Black Spirits program.
