Please join us for the 15th Telephone Telephone event, Monday, October 16 at 6:00pm, at Center for Book Arts, for the second part of our three part A Book is Brick program. We will be discussing rebuses, word games, onomatopoeia, concrete poetry and other inventive uses, and inversions, of text and image. Both the exhibition form and book form use sequenced texts, images, and objects to convey meaning. How are these sequences read and understood? Is “understanding” always the primary goal?
We hope that this discussion will lead to a printed result, or perhaps a broadsheet or an arrangement in space. Please bring ideas, rebuses and short texts that you think might be useful. We’ll provide some paper and tools to help us make something new while we talk.
The reading for the meeting will be David Reinfurt’s “G-E-S-T-A-L-T”, originally published by The Serving Library.
