About the Workshop:

This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Sarah Nicholls.

Do you have a favorite book, or set of books, that deserve a beautiful protective slipcase? In this course, students will create a custom cloth-covered slipcase for a book. Students will learn to measure to fit their book, line boards, assemble and cover a four-sided lined slipcase to house a book. We will talk about decorative options and ways to personalize the project. No binding experience necessary.

Required Materials:

  • Ex-acto or olfa knife with fresh blades
  • Bone folder
  • sharp pencil and eraser
  • Recommended: a teflon folder
  • Small metal triangle
  • glue brushes
  • Participants should also bring one hardback book of their own to class – no larger than 9” x 12”
All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
