This five-week, in-person workshop takes place at CBA on Thursdays, May 18–June 15, from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

About the Workshop:

This in-person workshop is taught by instructor Amber Braverman.

This course is an introduction and exhaustive workshop to understand the basic operation of the Platen Press. We will touch upon the basic parts, operation, and maintenance of the press. Along with how to troubleshoot common issues when printing from different mediums (metal type, polymer plates). Be ready to roll up your sleeves and find yourself immersed in the fun and fast world of platen press printing. Students will be able to design and print one or two small pieces.

Required Materials:

Pencil and paper for note-taking
Bookbinding awl
Bone folder
Olfa silver knife and blades, or exact-o knife

All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.

About Amber Braverman

Amber Braverman is the proprietor of Post Editions, a letterpress studio focused on collaboration with artists and writers.

As an educator, Braverman hopes to share her passion for the craft of printmaking with her students. She has been teaching letterpress printing, image-making, and book forms at CBA since 2006.

She began her journey into the world of book arts from a young age and studied letterpress printmaking through apprenticeship and job printing. She currently resides in Garrison, New York.
