About the Workshop:
This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Hadley Vogel.
This course is ideal for artists with a collection of prints or original works of art, like drawings, that are uniform in size and would like to bind them into a single catalog.
In this course artists will be creating cloth hinges attached to their print and then exploring a new technique to create a very minimal binding that does not require any special equipment. These books can be bound at home and create very sleek, minimal and elegant presentations of their work.
Required Materials:
All staff, artists, students, and guests are required to show proof of vaccination upon entering CBA and must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth at all times. If you have a medical or religious exemption, please email corina@centerforbookarts.org. Required Materials:
- awl
- scissors
- thread
- straight edge
- Japanese screw punch
- binders board
All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.
About Hadley Vogel
Hadley Vogel (b. 1987) is a second generation bookbinder who apprenticed from an early age under her father Paul Vogel of the Vogel Bindery in East Hampton, NY. In addition to her apprenticeship on Long Island, Hadley worked under master binder Martín Farfán Patiño, of Farfán Encuadernadores, Mexico City, MX, where she honed her skills, focusing on restorations of historic volumes from Mexican museum and institutional collections. Since the opening of Hadley Hill Bindery, she has focused on the development of experimental forms, including plush bindings and the use of recycled fur, melding contemporary aesthetics with traditional construction processes.
