About the Workshop:

This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Eva Parra.

Risograph printing is an exciting technique that combines the vibrant spot colors of screenprinting, the cost-effective and large productions of offset printing, and the accessibility of a photocopier machine. It is one of the most environmentally friendly ways of printing and also one of the most compact and convenient ways of reproducing printed matter. These features have made Riso printing a favorite among independent publishers and visual artists to reproduce and disseminate their work. This workshop will guide you to the do’s and dont’s of Riso printing, will introduce you to the history and contemporary context of worldwide Riso production, and will give you the tools to start your own independent publishing label for prints, zines, artists’ books, postcards or whatever edition you may think of!
Participants will experiment with different graphic techniques such as mark making, collage, and watercolor to create their very own 2 color print editions.

Required Materials:

  • CBA will provide all materials.

Optional Materials:

  • drawing tools, scrap paper for collages, drawings, photographs, and objects to scan
  • laptop with access to Adobe Suite.
